This famous fortress is very popular because it is very old and tells basically the whole long story of the history of Odessa. It is remarkably  well protected  and the castle looks even on same places exactly as it was many centuries ago. It was first built in the VI century AD and was destroyed in the year 238 by Seythians.

Later it was rebuilt and played an important role in the changing political influences between Moldavians, Turks and Ukrainians.

There are 26 buildings-towers and  a lot of them are still standing, the Citadel is among them. If you want to learn about the many changes of power in the Black Sea region, the fortress is a very good guide line. It is an unbelievable story that Odessa Trips loves to tell you. You will be amazed.
